What's happening in your garden today?

Spading bought some Peat Moss. Was hoping to get it worked up but I don't work as fast as I used to.

Son was complaining how hard it is to till. I told him it needed Spading.

Oh I an't doing that.

It was golf in the morning, then lunch, then a bit of shopping. So after I had got home and made us some cappuccinos, I got into this.

The paint on the back of the wood had dried overnight. So it was just a case of screwing it to the garage and giving the front its first coat of paint. It'll get another tomorrow. It only took an hour, finished for half-past four.
As I already had the paint, total cost, twenty quid.

Planted Marigolds, Basil and some Elephant Ears.

Repotted a Gerber Daisy.

Working around this beautiful rain. Wanted to plant some more Cannas but it wasn't to be.

My wife wanted me to plant Cannas and Elephant Ears together but they have different needs.

Thinking of getting some Christmas Ferns. Put some Hostas in front of them.

Was going to get Bees but I would need my sons help but I don't think he realizes how much work is involved.

We have several large green Apta glazed pots, one of which is to the side of our front door. We have several plants in plastic pots which just about fit inside this pot, so we can ring the changes.
Until recently, it was this heather, but it was past its best.

So before any of our roses became available, I thought I'd give this azalea a chance, I'd bought it for £18 in B&Q on 18th of March. Pictured here the same day after I'd transferred it to this bigger plastic pot adding a mixture of compost and top soil..

Well, it's certainly done me proud.

Remember this?

Well, here in the North-West, it's what we've been promised for the next week.

Just did some watering and sprayed some of the roses which had a bit of whitefly. Won't be cutting the lawn for a bit.

Too much! Got 14 Pepper Plants planted. Zucchini Squash and Spaghetti Squash.

Finally got my Canna Bulbs in the ground.

Moved some plants around for sun needs.

Watered my Succulents.

Then I was blessed with couple Grandsons taking me fishing. Caught my limit and set back watching the fun.

First off fed my Worms.

Mulched with Straw coming off houses for insulation. Ran out still need more.

Told my wife I was quitting. She said good. I lied went collected Eggs. Had hundreds of plants hollering at me for some water. They got it.

Did some learning today. I already knew some but lost it in my mind. Fertilizing to put it on the plants can be better they will take it up faster.

Hybrids you starts from cuttings because if you save seeds it is hard telling what you will get.

I've been shifting gravel laid around the edge of a large raised bed. The gravel is level with the lawn and the mower blades catch the stones so I'll recycle it elsewhere in the garden.

Edit: Still no sign of any rain so spent a couple of hours watering this evening.

Cleared all the beds. The soil is SO MUCH BETTER this season, it's mindboggling how much Mother Nature takes care of her own on the "off seasons". Amended half of the beds with blood meal and compost but decided to hold off on the remaining beds until the rest of the supplies come in over the weekend. (worm castings, kelp meal, gypsum) Got my 6 grow bags of potatoes outside in their forever home. We'll see how they hold up. They need ALOT of water, so I'll likely hook up an additional drip line for them.

I plan on dropping all my hardened starters on Sunday/Monday. I have about 30 pepper plants, 20 tomato plants, 24 squash, 12 pumpkins, 12 melons, 40 onions, and 6 okra. I will direct sow everything else; 3 varieties of corn, 4 varieties of sunflower, 2 varieties of marigolds (although around 100 look to be self-sown from last season), nasturtiums, 13 lavender plants, beans, peas, radishes, carrots. Got my herbs going a few days ago.

I also have 20 tree saplings now. Eastern Redbud, Washington Hawthorn, White Flowering Dogwood, Colorado Blue Spruce, Sargent Crabapple, Lilacs. I have 2 varieties of bonsai trees going as well. Why not.
