What's happening in your garden today?

While Tetters has been laying waste to the Lavender hedge I've been cutting the Hazel hedge on the cornfield boundary 🙂

I made Tetters a tree house while I was doing it but she won't climb up into it 😬

Cut these poles up for later use in the veg garden.

And the smaller twigs will go through the gruncher and end up as wood chip

Call that a tree house?!! It looks more like a trap to me. Reminds me of the film - back in the 70's about the wicker man. 😱

There was a short break in the rain !! 😃

So, I gathered up all my Zinnias that were still under grow lights and begging to be planted, ran outside and just as I was placing the very last of the bakers dozen into their permanent homes, a very disturbing rumble followed by an ear-deafening clap of thunder hit. 😱 I plopped the last one in, shifted my wheelbarrow into high gear, and RAN, full tilt, for the potting shed !! 😂😂😂

Didn't get too wet !! 😄

I did some shopping in Asda today and on the way out, I noticed these and took them back in to pay for them.

"Three for a fiver, can't be bad."

I took them to the customer service desk, where an assistant was trying to stick some labels she'd printed off, on something a customer had returned. She could only use one hand, as in the other she had a number of inflated balloons. She said a customer had just paid for them, but had "wandered off." I offered to hold them for her, but she said she could manage. "Mind you," she said, "I've already lost one!"

I looked up and there it was stuck to the ceiling about thirty feet above our heads!

Who'd want to work in a shop?

I think I'll put them on the garage window sill for a couple of weeks before deciding to use them for some of those which have not made an appearance this year.

As it's sunny and quite warm, I might do a bit of weeding this afternoon.

Wow !! 3for 5£ ??? 😮
Over here the very cheapest I can get a Clematis is at Walmart for $15.00 and, that's a clematis with no varietal name on it. If you want one with a name, it's 25- 40$. 😐

Asda, can be quite good for plants.
The only garden centre locally, is about four miles away (That's "far," in the UK).
Few of their clematis will be less than £20.

Any talk of distances reminds me of this.

Sadly, Lari White, who just had a couple of minutes of screen time at the conclusion of this film, looking very vibrant, passed away in 2018, at the age of 52.

Fedex later parodied this ending in a Superbowl commercial

Finally finished burning all the hedge cuttings, as a reminder, this was my mate Paul with his chain saw a few weeks ago...

And this was today 🙂

Just got to cut up the pile in the corner for firewood for the new woodburner. I've got 2 solar powered chainsaws and a mains electric one that I'm not allowed to use 😬

That FedEx commercial was hilarious. Zigs hadn't listened to it, but when I played it through, he laughed out loud (well, giggled out loud actually)
@Sean Regan - what a good bargain!
@Anniekay one of the cheapest ways to get Clematis is by taking a few cuttings. First you make especially favourable remarks to nearby gardeners who have the varieties you especially like, and when they are suitably buttered up, you ask them very nicely if you could possibly just clip off a cutting for your garden. When that's achieved, you take a few internodal slips - like this 1741640322619.webp
push these into previously moistened compost, and leave them in a shady place, spraying them regularly with water. Bottom heat helps.
I've always found they root quite readily. They need to be pushed down well - right up to the leaf, and don't allow the leaves to touch each other while they're rooting as they may rot. That's the reason one leaf is usually removed!
At work I used to do really really early shifts to propagate these or Lonicera (honeysuckle) before the heat of the day.

I tried propagating clematis from seed but none germinated. @Tetters, are those spring cuttings taken just before the stem hardens off ?

Yes, they are from new growth, but not until it matures a bit. The very fleshy bits won't make it - they need a bit of strength. I always cut pieces as long as possible, and take cuttings from the new growth as close to the main stem as possible, but discard the floppy bits at the ends. Those stems should be the right length, so short enough to fit into the tray to allow the leaf to rest on the top of the compost.
