We've not seen any spotted woodpeckers for about 4 years now They disappeared around the time of the drought and the arrival of next door's cats.

I notice your blackbirds have orangey- yellow beaks and all of ours are totally black, beak and all. sometimes the beaks are very dark gray, though.




Even our Redwinged blackbirds have black beaks, and the crows too !!

Only the boy Blackbird has got the bright beak over here, Mrs Blackbird is more subtle I'll try and get a pic of her too

Love the picture of the cardinal @DrCase! One of my favorite birds. I just wish there were more around here. I can count on my hands the number of cardinals I've seen in my lifetime.

I received a Christmas present of one of those AI Bird Feeder/Camera similar to the pictures posted by @DrCase . I enjoyed the pictures and the Ids but the maintenance was just more than I cared to keep up with.

@Mike, we have up to a dozen Cardinals at a time at our feeders early and late. The secret to attracting them we discovered was Safflower seeds. They love 'em.

That's good info to know. I'll have to see about getting some.

We goty mom one of those feeder cameras too, put some food in it, and even put some cornbread in the little whole food container it has attached. She hasn't had any birds find it yet. It's been up since Christmas and it's still full of food. It's sitting right under a tree that's usually full of birds so there's definitely something going on. Gonna move it to the back yard, where all her flowers and things are, soon.
