OK, so here's the deal.. My daughter is decorating her basement office in a southwestern theme and I want to get her a cactus, but obviously there will be virtually no sunlight, or natural light for that matter. Can any cactus survive in an indoor environment where there is only artificial light during the day but complete darkness most of the time. Or can I install a tiny sunlamp by it on a timer?? TYVM in advance
I tried using full spectrum growlights on cacti for a few months. However Cacti need much stronger light than a home growlight can provide. I think they can cope with maybe 3 hours sunlight a day?

That is so weird how they do that !! Have you ever eaten any part of an Opuntia and if so, what does it taste like?
I live in southwestern USA where if you go for mexican food sometimes you will see "nopales" on the menu which is when they cook the tender new pads. It's a tasty ingredient that goes in tacos and such. Juice and jam is made from the fruits which are packed full of flavor but also seeds. Not sure what to compare it to but it's sweet.
