Last year I planted Marigolds, Basil and Garlic for Bug deterants.

Just wondering if I should do the same this year I have plenty seed.

Last year my whole garden smelled like Basil. Then I read Bees don't like Basil.

This is something I'm gonna try this year. We're gonna try some marigolds around the tomatoes then we're looking at possibly planting some Russian sage in various spots all around the perimeter of the garden. From what I understand, both of those could help deter some of the pests.

I doubt any of them will keep the fire ants at bay, though, which is our biggest problem. Just gonna have to use @Meadowlark's advice there and just disrupt their little colonies with a shovel when we find them in the garden and poison them outside the garden.

I have never had a problem with Fire Ants but my wife has. Bad being in middle of a cemetery wanting to strip.

Buffalo Gnats different problem.

You want to use French Marigolds. Got some African Marigolds I like and was going to plant them by the road but found a French Marigold that looks the same so I got some of them. Court Jester.
