My first planting of the subject corn variety is up and showing about 2-3 inches. This first planting consists of 5 raised rows about 50 ft in length. The raised rows are really great for garden corn here as we often get 10 inch plus "toad" stranglers every year from stalled cold fronts. Without the raised rows, much/most of the corn will be drowned in those storms.

This first planting also shows the effects of "throwing" dirt on the seedlings to help with weed prevention and more importantly to help stabilize them in these relentless strong spring winds. Without that stabilization or with transplants, much of the corn is subject to problematic damage from the elements.

Today, I made my second planting of the same variety of corn. Multiple plantings staggered enable a continuous supply of fresh eating garden corn most all summer.

The first planting will produce our "freezing" corn as well as fresh eating but the second planting which is only 10 ft in the same 5 rows will in effect extend the continuous supply of fresh garden corn. In another month or so, I'll make a third planting which will enable fresh corn consumption all summer.

Yes, absolutely, garden corn is worth the trouble to be able to taste it fresh all summer long. In the photo below you can see multiple rows of Marigolds and Zinnias coming on in front of the 5 corn rows and the first corn planting can be seen to the right in the photo. In the distance see beans, tomatoes, onions, potatoes and a cover crop growing in front of blackberries
