The gaura plant, also called wandflower or bee blossom, is a low-maintenance, long-blooming native perennial with lance-like foliage. Wiry flower stems feature many 1-inch four-petalled pink flowers looking like butterflies on long stems.

My first attempt at growing these perennials in my new butterfly garden. The thing that really sold me on these is that they tolerate extreme heat and sun as well as cold temperatures down to minus 20°F.

They are just beginning to bloom here...
