I saw two of these yesterday. They're called Mourning Cloak butterflies and you only see them when it's cool outside. By the time it gets hot I have no idea where they go but, they disappear. Winter and spring, they're around.
A privilege to revisit this thread freed from witness protection. One of the last visitors to my butterfly garden last fall was the Texas Cresent.
I'm eagerly awaiting the return of butterflys spring 2025. I have some surprises planned for them including, coneflowers, black-eyed susans, various milkweeds, butterfly bushes, etc. etc. Looking forward to their return.
