From Dirt to Dinner: Do you cook your harvest indoors or out?

We spend months planning, digging, weeding, and watering these plants. But I realized we didn't really have a place on the forum to talk about the best part, which is eating them!

I wanted to kick off this section to see how everyone prepares their harvest. Are you a master chef in the kitchen, or are you like me and prefer to do most of your cooking outside?

I’ll be honest, I’m primarily a meat eater. I follow a pretty relaxed carnivore/ketovore diet, so I eat a lot of steak, bratwurst, and chicken thighs. But that doesn't mean I don't love my garden. For me, the vegetables are there to make the main course better.

Since I live in Texas, I try to keep the heat out of the house. I do almost all my cooking on my Blackstone or on my Traeger. I also enjoy firing up the Weber kettle or the Oklahoma Joe smoker sometimes too.

One of my favorite things to do with a harvest is the "Steakhouse Topper":
  1. Take a mess of fresh onions (hopefully those 1015s I’m planting this year) and jalapenos.
  2. Slice them thick.
  3. Throw them on the Blackstone with a big slice of butter and some garlic while my ribeye is searing next to them.
  4. Let them get caramelized and soft, then pile them right on top of the steak.
It’s simple, but you can’t beat the flavor of an onion that was in the ground 20 minutes ago.

How do you cook your crops? I’m looking for ideas for this upcoming season. When the tomatoes and peppers start rolling in, what is your go-to recipe?

Do you have a secret salsa recipe? A zucchini bread that actually tastes good? Or are you throwing everything into an Instant Pot?
