This year, for the first time, we're going to be trying our hand at some fresh herbs. In particular, we want to grow some fresh thyme, dill, oregano, and parsley. I'm, honestly, not even sure if all of those will grow around here, but we're going to find out soon enough!

Last year my son had strawberries in a large container that I'd cut in half. This year, the strawberries have been transplanted to the ground so we're going to use the same container to grow our herbs in. The plan is to divide the container, basically, into four sections and grow one herb in each section. Of course we're not using any actual dividers. We'll just plant them all in there and whatever happens, happens.

I'm really looking forward to the fresh dill, especially if it's a better tasting than store bought. We make a LOT of pickles each year and it would certainly save a ton of money if we could be using fresh dill instead of having to buy it. That's probably the most expensive part just because of the amount of dill we like to put in our pickles.

The other herbs (thyme, oregano, parsley) are just the other herbs that we use most in our own cooking through the year. My guess is those will get dehydrated and jarred up for use throughout the year. At least what we can't use while they're fresh anyways.

Any of the rest of y'all grow herbs? Ever grown them in the same container(s) before? Have any luck?

In all my (half-hearted) efforts this past season, I managed to keep 4 rosemary plants and 1 creeping thyme plant alive in the herb department. As my culinary hobbies take me to different places, I have an ever-increasing need for a thriving herb garden. It will be my first actual attempt, with focus.

Funny fact: last season I broadcasted a few packs of dill seeds throughout my various garden beds only to discover (upon researching why my dill never grew) 3 months later that I had been "weeding" them out systematically due to inexperience. I flat out didn't know what dill sprouts looked like. Rookie move. Do better. Hissssss, booooo! lol

But THIS YEARRRR!!! This year will be the one.
