Trees Down in the Storm

Living on the edge of the Big Thicket National Preserve there is no shortage of trees...huge trees.

Yesterday's storm took down some big ones on my ranch including one of the oldest, largest oaks:



A sister oak went with it:



And a third one nearby did not escape the storm's wrath:



Down stream found another large tree a casualty of the storm:




It's sad to see these majestic trees destroyed this way. The storms this spring have been violent here...the worst I have ever experienced.

I totally agree Meadowlark, it's such a shame to see them felled in an instant after years of growing.

In my younger days, I might have tried to slab out those oaks...but too heavy and too much work for me now. They will just return to the soil after many years.
