One of the biggest factors in our gardens, and really one of the oldest conversations starters in the world, the weather...

It changes every day, and affects our every day life (especially during our garden seasons), so let's talk about it here!

Right now we're being hit with the start of this polar vortex that sweeping across the country. We've got highs down in the 30s all week, which is probably not terrible for some of y'all who live a bit further north, that will keep us mostly indoors with the heaters cranked up! There will certainly not be any gardening for me this week!

We're expecting some ice and snow later in the week, which stinks because nobody around here knows how to drive on ice and snow. Expected, I guess, considering how little we get around here, but it's still surprising just how bad folks are driving on it.

Stay warm, y'all!

Came to work this morning at it was 19F when I first checked. Almost noon and we're sitting at 28F. Wind is blowing and it's so cold it feels like it's trying to cut my skin open. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer, with a high of 42F. There's a reason I live in Texas, instead of up north, and this ain't it! 😂

This dang polar vortex is still looming around! We do have a high of 43, so that's good 🤦‍♂️, but right now it's 23F. I guess at least the wind isn't blowing much today. Tomorrow is supposed to be the coldest day of the week (high of 38F), but we've also got a chance of rain and snow in the forecast. NOT looking forward to that because, if that happens, that means we'll be clearing sidewalks around the building tomorrow. 👎

Another cold one today and it's been snowing all morning. Luckily the ground isn't cold enough for it to stick to the streets and sidewalks, but that also means tomorrow morning there will be a sheet of ice on everything.

This cold weather makes for some good meals, though. We had gumbo last night (my gumbo recipe here), and we'll be having chicken 'n dumplins tonight, made with the chicken thighs I had left from last night's meal. It's about time for me to make a pot of deer chili too!
