I've recently been bitten by the "bug" and become interested in Butterflys, their identification, and plants to attract them. From time to time, I'll be posting in some in this section including re a mini attractor garden I'm starting this spring.

My first post however is about the magnificent and endangered Monarch butterfly one of which I recently captured in photo as apparently it was migrating to Mexico.

I am not a "camera" person so forgive my meager photos..but enjoy the butterfly as I did.

The monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) is a milkweed butterfly. It is among the most familiar of North American butterflies and an iconic pollinator Its wings feature an easily recognizable black, orange, and white pattern, with a wingspan of 8.9–10.2 cm (3.5–4.0 in).

Wow, I didn't realize these were endangered! I'll definitely have to keep my eyes peeled for them. Seems like when I was a kid these things were everywhere but, sadly, I don't pay much attention to the butterflies these days. I guess I also didn't realize how beneficial they were to gardens. I guess I never even thought of them as great pollinators but more just something that looked pretty.
