What's happening in your garden today?

You're dry and we are wet. Lots of rain and rain in the forecast the next three days. Rain is good but also has its cons... onions and potatoes need dry right now prior to harvest. On the plus side, the pollinator garden is growing like crazy.

    From the Veggie Garden Today

We've received about 8 inches of rain over the last two days and that means to me time to watch the potatoes carefully for rotting. This year's spring crop still another three weeks or so to go to maturity, but the combination of excessive rains with 90 deg F temps can turn a potato crop into...

    Onion Processing for Storage

With recent heavy rains, my spring onion crop is racing to maturity. Some have already reached it, but most others are still about one week away from falling tops and maturity. At maturity, the onions are pulled and then placed in full sun to dry. It generally takes one to two days to dry...

Robbing potatoes. I start robbing new potatoes just after the seed potatoes bloom and continue to the final harvest. Our blooms this year started about three weeks ago. This effectively extends my enjoyment of fresh potatoes by several weeks. A small price to pay for fresh new potatoes. Today...

    Meadowlark Ranch Pollinator Garden

Thank you for your comments @Sheal . I definitely come on here looking for your comments because I respect your knowledge of flowers so much. The mix I use works great for starting veggies. Maybe I need to trim it back some for flowers. I am finding some cone flowers that didn't germinate...

I make my own seed starting mix and it has served me well on starting veggies. Patience is usually in short supply ;)

    Meadowlark Ranch Pollinator Garden

Starting flowers from seed has been a surprisingly difficult task for me. I'm accustomed to veggies which are relatively fast and reliable at germination...flowers have been different. More and more I'm stratifying my flower seeds first and that extra step takes time. The ads say easy to start...
