    Fruit in Ohio?

@Tetters Hi back! I really am interested in paw paw as I've never tasted it and can almost guarantee it'll never be in stores, but I would like to try it before I plant it. What a tragedy otherwise - space that could otherwise be filled! Yes, I think you're right about the fruits I can do - I...

    Fruit in Ohio?

Hi all! I'm looking for recommendations or warnings about what (general or specific) fruits to grow in NE Ohio, Zone 6b. Any ideas? ~Hawk

    Raised beds for Ohio?

I actually used this technique when I planted my squash this year! None of my flowers made it, I forgot to water them I think, but the squash did okay even through the issues that arose after. Thank you all for chiming in! I'll post a picture if I can think to; tomorrow is going to be...

    Raised beds for Ohio?

I just posted this in the old forum because I forgot I had both open. Anyway! My husband has taken an interest in raised beds, and we're thinking of using them as a sort of fence to hedge off our corner lot from the sidewalk. The beds would be in almost total sun, safely from 10-6 at least, and...

    Advice for new gardeners.

These are FANTASTIC points!!! The "Full sun" bit makes me feel better about where I put some of my plants, and the watering makes me feel better too. Thank you!

    Squash Vine Borers have arrived

I checked on the plant today, and apparently I didn't kill the bug or another showed up, because more of the stem was eaten away...I gave up, pulled the squash free and uprooted the plant itself before chucking it in the garbage. 😢 It had survived for so long! I feel like I let it down, which is...

    Squash Vine Borers have arrived

I'm not sure I'll grow squash in general again yet, I'm not eating it as much as I expected to...but the more you learn! Thanks for asking about that, Mike, I wondered the same thing. My garden is about 9' by 4' so it's not very large, plus it's only got maybe four squash plants and two string...

    Squash Vine Borers have arrived

I didn't see any eggs, maybe one small white larva that I squished immediately. I think they were all the same variety of summer squash, though the zucchini might do better or be different. I can't quite tell at this stage unfortunately, I don't have the experience!

    Just for a laugh

He was great at his craft, I remember my parents going through a Bob Newhart show phase where that was The Show and it was so, so funny! My brothers were known as Larry, Darryl and Darryl for a long time after that...

    Squash Vine Borers have arrived

I noticed my heartiest squash plant was all wilty, with a rotting stem. Some quick research later, I realized I had SVB in it and unfortunately in a few others though far less badly. I dug around in the stem and killed a long brown caterpillar-worm (thin), but didn't find anything else (unless I...
